Resolution criteria:
This market will resolve based on the official count of moose that successfully cross the Ångermanälven River during the 2025 Great Moose Migration broadcast, as reported by Sveriges Television (SVT). The count will be determined by the number of moose observed swimming across the river during the live broadcast period.
The closing date will be extended as long as the broadcast continues.
Background:
The Great Moose Migration is an annual event in Sweden where moose migrate to greener pastures, crossing the Ångermanälven River near Kullberg. SVT has been broadcasting this migration live since 2019, using multiple cameras to capture the event. The live broadcast can be accessed here:
https://www.svtplay.se/video/emyovbZ/den-stora-algvandringen/idag-00-00
In 2024, a record 87 moose were observed crossing the river during the broadcast period.
Previous year statistics:
2019: 60 moose
2020: 54 moose
2021: 39 moose
2022: 67 moose
2023: 21 moose
2024: 87 moose
The 2025 migration began earlier than usual due to warm weather, with the livestream starting ahead of schedule.
Considerations:
The number of moose crossing the river can vary annually due to factors such as weather conditions, food availability, and moose population dynamics. Early warm weather in 2025 may influence the timing and number of crossings. Additionally, while SVT provides extensive coverage, not all moose crossings may be captured on camera, potentially affecting the official count.
