Background
The "Twitter Files" were a series of reports published by journalists Bari Weiss, Matt Taibbi, and Michael Shellenberger starting in late 2022, based on internal Twitter documents provided by Elon Musk. These reports focused on Twitter's content moderation decisions, alleged government involvement, and claims of censorship on the platform.
Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve positively if any of the three journalists (Weiss, Taibbi, or Shellenberger) publicly acknowledges significant errors in their Twitter Files reporting AND explicitly apologizes or expresses regret for their role in the reporting before December 31, 2025. The acknowledgment must:
Be made on a public platform (social media, news article, interview, etc.)
Specifically reference the Twitter Files reporting
Include clear language indicating an admission of error or wrongdoing
Things to Consider
All three journalists have consistently defended their reporting despite criticism
They continue to cite the Twitter Files in discussions about social media censorship and government involvement
The journalists have received significant support from certain political quarters
Their work has been used in congressional hearings and political discussions
They have historically shown resistance to retracting or significantly modifying their positions on this topic
The political and ideological alignment of these journalists makes a public reversal less likely
Musk's full support of Trump and his use of X to support the campaign.
Special Cases
Minor corrections or clarifications that don't constitute a full mea culpa will not count for positive resolution
The admission must come from one of the three named journalists themselves, not their associates or organizations
If any of the journalists pass away before the end date, the market will continue based on the remaining journalists
