The EU has been toying with the idea of fundamentally breaking E2EE by enforcing client-side scanning of CSAM in private messages. This has been met with a lot of criticism, both from EU officials and external academics and security professionals.
Now the question is, will they do so before the end of 2025?
Resolution criteria:
If EU passes a law mandating scanning of encrypted messages for CSAM, resolves as YES.
If no such law is passed, or E2EE platforms are carved an exception, resolves as NO.
