Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) is a metric for measuring the net present value of building (renewable) energy capacity.
The goal set by the US Department of Energy is to reach this target by 2030. It is modest, considering that solar currently accounts for 3% of US power generation. To decarbonize the grid by 2035, solar would need to account for something like 40%.
The goal set in 2011 to reach an LCOE of $0.05 per kWh by 2020 was met three years early. At that time, solar accounted for 0.1% of US power generation.
Market closes in early 2030.
I will resolve when US DOE issues a report confirming the target has been reached.
