@traders Creator appears inactive. Presumably this will need a mod resolve eventually. I extended the close date since the early close did not appear intentional.
My current clarifications, if I end up resolving as mod:
"Absent seizure" interpreted broadly -- anything where he's unresponsive but apparently awake / upright at a podium or otherwise on TV.
Removed -- not merely fails to get elected, not resigned, but removed by impeachment or other similar process.
Let me know if it needs to be resolved or extended again.
@AprilHeathman If that's wrong or you had some other interpretation in mind, please speak up!
@EvanDaniel So this is “Will Mitch McConnell have another absent seizure on live tv and be removed from office by 2027?” now?
@vitamind Well, I thought it always was that way (I'm not involved in the question). But it's entirely possible I got that wrong or that the question was ambiguous enough that it should be resolved N/A.
Originally, the question was created with a 1-month trading window and no clear specification of end date. I interpreted that close date as the default date, not something specified by the creator, and tried to make a guess at what was meant. "And be removed from office" seemed like a thing that would take a while, so one month due date for it to happen seemed unlikely to be the intent. (Not necessarily trying to say I'm right here, just saying what I was thinking at the time, as best I remember it.)
The new interpretation I proposed isn't just "by 2027", it's by whenever he leaves office -- if he sticks around longer and gets re-elected the close date would be extended again.
@vitamind I posted a thread in the moderators channel on discord, feel free to follow along or chime in if you wish: https://discord.com/channels/915138780216823849/1192133786561953882
@EvanDaniel has left office as republican/minority senate leader.
Still a senator and taken on role as chair of senate rules committee.
Which office(s) are relevant for removal from office?
Is it just as leader of the Senate Republican Conference? (so could resolve now?)
Or is just removal as senator adequate for a yes?
Or would removal from new roles like chair of senate rules committee, even though not in that role when question created, adequate for a yes?
@ChristopherRandles My interpretation had been elected office, not just a leadership responsibility. But I'd certainly welcome discussion on that or other parts of this!
not resigned, but removed by impeachment or other similar process.
Was he removed? Or did he merely step down?
@EvanDaniel He announced before election that he was retiring from leadership role after November election. John Thune[edit or possibly Chuck Schumer wikipedia not consistent] appointed with effect from 3 Jan 2025. This certainly seems to me to be a 'step down' not a 'removed from office'.
I was asking because I m not sure of terminology of "office" in respect of a senator or as a senate leader position.
