Background
Steve Smith is one of Australia's greatest Test batsmen, with a remarkable career spanning over a decade. As of early 2024, Smith has already retired from One Day International (ODI) cricket to focus on Test cricket and T20s. He has indicated that he approaches his cricket career on a series-by-series basis rather than setting specific retirement timelines.
In recent interviews, Smith has stated that Test cricket remains his priority, though he has expressed interest in continuing T20 cricket potentially through the 2028 Olympics. At 34 years old (as of early 2024), Smith is in the latter stages of his career but has not announced any specific retirement plans for Test cricket.
Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve to the option that correctly identifies when Steve Smith retires from Test cricket. The market will resolve based on Smith's official announcement or his final Test match played, whichever clearly indicates his retirement from the format.
The options are:
After the 2025 WTC Final (mid-2025)
After the 2025-26 Ashes series in Australia (early 2026)
After the 2027 Ashes series in England (mid-2027)
After the 2028-29 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India (early 2029)
After the 2029-30 Ashes series in Australia (early 2030)
If Smith retires at a time between these specific series, the market will resolve to Other. For example, if he retires in late 2026 after a different series, the resolution would be “Other”
If Smith has not retired from Test cricket by the end of 2030, this market will remain open until his retirement is confirmed.
