Resolution Criteria
As of December 17th 2025, England holds the Raeburn Shield. The market resolves to whichever nation holds the Raeburn Shield on December 31, 2026. The shield is defended by the current holders in every Test match they play, home or away. Win the match, and you claim the shield. Lose, and it passes to your opponent. Resolution will be determined by checking the official Raeburn Shield tracker at https://www.raeburnandutrechtshields.com/raeburn-shield on or shortly after December 31, 2026.
Background
The Raeburn Shield is a rugby union trophy based on a "Title Holder" concept similar to a boxing world title, named after Raeburn Place, the site of the first-ever international rugby match between England and Scotland on 27 March 1871. Unlike the Rugby World Cup, which occurs every four years, the Raeburn Shield can change hands multiple times a year. Historically, the Raeburn Shield has changed hands more than 200 times. South Africa boasts the longest reign, maintaining it for 5,845 days from 1937 to 1953.
Considerations
The shield is not recognised by World Rugby but is building recognition globally with rugby fans. The shield's holder is determined entirely by match results in international Test rugby, making prediction dependent on team performance across the full year of 2026.
